Quality plan is allowing OLV +5mm/-5mm for partial trial assembly,if so
far first and second partial TA put together shall we allow OLV is +10mm/-10mm? |
For both cases the final OLV shall not more than+5mm/-5mm. |

2. |
In partial TA fom bottom to top,why OLV is restricted to 5mm? |
Length variation is accomodated below the zero mark level. In partial TA,from bottom to top overall length from "O" level to TOC is to de kept as per drawing requirement The adjusment is not possible, since bottom piece is dispatched after completion of partial TA.The total possible variations between pair of column is around 10mm will make level difference of ceiling grider at ends. This level difference will not affect much on erection of ceiling grider and connected part. |

3. |
Shall we add all individual piece length to find out the length of the column? |
The total length of the column shall be measured during trial assembly only. |
|
4. |
For the main column OLV is very critical,What about the OLV variations allowed for other column? |
Dimension control on total length is to be maintained. if there is variations beyond the limit for the other columns, respective product engineering will be the deciding authority to give dispositions on a case to case basis. |

What is initial OLV and final OLV? |
Over all length variations measured at a time for full TA is normally called OLV. The OVL measured for a column in first partial trial assembly is called initial OVL, and the subsequent next partial TA is called final OLV".The total OLV however shall be not interpreted as arithmetic addition of the length variations of the individual pieces. it is well explained else where in the manual. |
|
6. |
To find out total OLV shall we add initial and final OLV (e.g: intial OLV +3 & Final OLV +8 mm together adds up to 11 mm a measure of final OLV? |
No,sketch-2 indicates final OLV of +8mm that includes initial OLV of+3mm as shown in sketch-1.Final OLV is measured with 4th piece of first TA,not derived by adding. |

In SIP:NP:02/02,clause 6.2 sub clause c,the statement is given as"When bottom to top sequence of trial assembly is done in two stages, the OLV of the column shall be computed progressively based on actual measured values from bottom to top".What is it communicating? |
This statement in SIP02/02 is under the heading of level marking. The statement ,'theOLV of the full column shall be computed progressively based on actual measured values from bottom and top ' means that the level marking on first partial TA shall not necessarily coincide with the end of the last piece in the first trial assembly Hence the extended part beyond the level marked on the last piece length shall be computed during fabrications stage to restrict the overall length variations within the acceptance level during second stage trial assembly. The progressive computation does not mean adding up the variations of individual length to find out the OLV. |

Why section depth tolerance is restricted to+3mm/-3mm in column? |
The bracing beams and horizontal beams are welded in between the columns. The length of the beam should be maintained within stipulated tolerance. The column section depth restricts the tolerance limits allowed for the length of the joining beams and bracing .Hence the column section depth is restricted to+3/-3mm. |
|
9. |
Why section depth checked at web plate center on outside of the flange? |
Section properties are calculated by section depth measured across the points where web plate center meets the flange on the outer edge. |
|
10. |
Why flange tilt and warpage is restricted to 2mm in plus column fabrication? |
The flange tilt and warpage tolerance given in AWS D1.1 is for built up beams and ceiling grider not for plus column.Plus columns are connected or boxed up by horiazontal beams and bracings at site.If any deviations on the flange is found beyond the limit, the matching problem occurs at site.Hence it is restricted to tilt 2mm for flange inclusive of warpage and web tilt. |

Why sweep and camber is not applicable to plus and square box section? |
Since the section size is symmetrical across X and Y axis for plus and square box section, sweep and camber is not applicable .The bow in X and Y axis is said to be biplane bow.The sweep and camber are applicable for tee, builtup|section ,rolledbeams, channels, anglesections. |

Is production test coupon required for production weld of compressive load member? |
production weld test coupon is not a mandatory as per the code.Approved WPS is enough to carry out the welding process. It is the agrreement between customer and manufactured to going for test coupon.According to most customer, production test coupon is desirable for critical mamber which is subjected to pure tensile combination of tensile and compression or dynamic or fatigue loads. For compressions loads the allowable weld stress is equal to the filler metal strength length or less than matching filler metal as per AWS.D.1.1(2008).The electrode E7018 is used for column groove butt joint and the weld metal strength is much higher than raw material (IS062 E250B).The allowable stress for the column member is 0.6 X yeild stength of raw material. Hence production weld test coupon is not required for compressive load member at all in view of the above said reason. |
